Mini rant

I understand that as families go, we should always encourage to share stuff and not mind certain liberties taken towards each other. I understand, and I try to play nice, so I don't complain to the people involved, but instead rant or whine here at LJ. If this means that I am of poor character, then, I don't know. I am a bad person then.

So I bought some new cosmetics stuff. Specifically, I bought a new make-up cleanser thingie from Japan. It's a local Japanese brand, and I read some good reviews of it, so at the airport, seeing it duty-free, and knowing that I would have to buy some cleanser or another anyway when I'm back home, I took the chance and bought that.

It's sitting in the bathroom, in the corner where I have all my used-in-the-bathroom items. As in, it's mine. It's personal.

I don't even mind that my Mom goes "oh, something new!" and starts using my stuff. (Well, IN TRUTH, I do mind, but as I said, family is sharing and not minding liberties taken). I mind it a little more when she comes into my room and rummages at my vanity and uses my stuff, and again, I keep quiet and suffer it internally. I mind it most when she has the audacity to use my stuff then complain that it's given her allergies as if I've encouraged her to use it and thus it is my fault that she has some adverse reaction to something or another, when if she had just kept her hands to herself, there would have been nothing wrong at all.

But of course, I do not complain, I do not talk back, just smile and say "huh, I'm fine with it, doesn't cause me problems, lucky me". Though let it be known that in my mind and heart I am just all "WTF don't use my stuff, then it's no problem." I would not be robbed of my satisfaction in ranting about it HERE.

Movies, which leads to books and school from long ago...

So I went to watch Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (movie). It was fun while it lasted. I did read the book which I think was better than the movie, perhaps because it stayed a little more true to the actual book.

Back then in High School, we only had to read Pride and Prejudice. I was already infected with the book-hoarding bug back then so bought a lot of these classics that were outside of our Literature curriculum (not that I read them, I guess this... illness... continues on today, haha!). I had bought Sense and Sensibility, Northanger Abbey, Emma, and Jane Eyre as well, but never read them. So, after reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, I decided I wanted to read Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, and so had made the point of reading Sense and Sensibility first.

Boy, I hated that book. Not as much as I hated Wuthering Heights, but the gossip content was just unbearable. I managed to finish the book, however, I took nothing to heart as if you ask me now, I only recall of a sprained ankle during a walk and a lot of gossip and he-said-she-said-this-and-that because he-overhead-from-whoever-and-told-them and whatnot. I got so wary of that book that gave up Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters without even opening it. I must say the concept of it does spike an interest, but perhaps a few years later. The book is in my possession, so I can read it anytime.

I liked Pride and Prejudice enough. There are certain phrases and quotes that have stuck in my mind. Even the forewords. Lizzie's marriage the most dazzling of it all, a truth universally acknowledged, Bingley having an income of 3,000 a year and Darcy 10,000. Elizabeth was likable (I did name my dog officially as "Lizzie", but never called her that) and Mr. Bennett very much so. I actually hated Jane. Mary I sort of understood. Lydia was a prat, whereas Kitty didn't stick.

In Literature class, students were picked by Miss Luz to read aloud from the book. As we all know, reading aloud is slower than reading in silence, so I usually read ahead. The class would be on page 103 and I would have read well on to 150 or so. I would then have to track back to follow the class progress, and then eventually continue to read ahead. I must have read the book a good 20 or 30 times over. Students were comprised mainly of Chinese students who didn't use English at home, wherease I spoke English every day at home, so I had a level of proficiency or ease in the language that reading English was never a hard thing for me. Miss Luz hardly ever picked me to read, unless she wanted to finish the class quickly, as she was obliged to correct everyone's pronunciation. In truth, it is a little sad when a student reads "nowhere" as "now-here" instead of "no-where". I suppose sometimes she gets tired of correcting and just wanted me to read a chapter or two in class so that we can just move on.

I still have the book! It's a lot cleaner than I thought I would have kept it. I distinctly rembmers doodling inside but I couldn't find the doodles now. We started the book in Form 3 (Third Form?), and I was in "Faith" class (Comprised of Faith, Hope, Charity).

It took us 2 years to read Pride and Prejudice, then we had to review it again at the third year as we had to take the GCE exam for Literature. Form 3, Form 4 and Form 5, reading this book over and over and over again... I'm glad I actually liked it, so I could enjoy it.

So after my stint with Sense and Sensibility, I attempted to read Northanger Abbey and I had to give up. While Sense and Sensibility was full of gossip, Northanger Abbey was full of parties and engagement. These have put me off Emma, and I think I shall never read another Austen again. Unless someone highly recommends something.

It was then that read Jane Eyre, but I was also wary of it as it was by a Bronte, and I absolutely loathed Wuthering Heights (similarly read during school). Though I hated it, I must say I was able to read through it again in my adulthood, which was, just some time last year. However, apparently I didn't have to worry, as Charlotte Bronte was simply siblings with Emily Bronte, and I actually loved Jane Eyre, despite some of its weirdness.

and then food (yes, I do tend to go off tangent)

So on the day that I went to watch Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, my friend took me to some low-key hotel (3 stars) for some interesting food. It's been YEARS since I've seen (much less, eaten) a real authentic local French Toast (it is slightly different from the traditional French Toast), my friend Jenny took me to this place to have their special version of a French Toast. It's still not the authentic local French Toast I mentioned, but it was still nice.

It had a runny custard filling instead of peanut butter, so it did not need an extra drizzle of butter and syrup!

nom nom nom yummy, it was good! The photo doesn't really do it justice as I wanted to eat it before the runny custard got cold. After this impromptu tea/snack, we strolled around the area of that hotel and I walked past the so-called legendary French Bakery. I thought to bring a baguette home (French Bakery and all) but it was late in the day and Baguettes were sold out. Walking a little further towards the bus stop for me to get a bus home, we passed by another bakery (a Portuguese one this time), so I decided to get some "Pão de Água" ("water bread", i.e. White Rolls), it being a Portuguese Bakery, and since they had it, a Baguette. Baaaaad idea. The white rolls were okay (Portuguese Bakery, I'm being repetitive, am I not?) but the Baguette was too heavy.

Guess we should only get bread from the specific bakery of their nationality, then...

And finally, just random stuff

Nothing much to say, except that I'm in my gaming and nerdy mood... so....?

It's Pokemon time! I'm going for my 4th badge, don't think I need to train up too much. By now, this topic, I suppose it wouldn't interest much people, so I shall just shut up :-)

Hee! I must admit, I'm fairly territorial about My Stuff. Especially new fancy face cleansers! I don't blame you one bit, and the allergy thing is just karma kicking in :)

I wouldn't be cool with that. You wanna use my shit, you better freaking ask, and I don't care who you are. But then, my mother thinks my skincare products are inferior to hers because they aren't some pricey as @#$% brand.

Not a Jane Austin fan then! I think Emma is perhaps her best, but we all have different tastes. I love Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights, though admittedly the former is more accessible.Whoever came up with those parody books certainly wasn't stupid.

I just might be convinced to give Emma a try. Once I clear out some of my to-read books and feel like reading some Austen I'll give Emma a try! I've also seen some parodies on Harry Potter, I think I have one of those sitting on a shelf somewhere too. I actually can't believe I bought it, but there you go.

Hah, that looks like Entei, the demon horse from Inuyasha. Emma was interesting enough, but Pride and Prejudice remains my favorite. I've always meant to read some other Austin books, but never got around to it lol.

Haha! At least with her allergy she won't use it again xD That's still silly she wouldn't ask, though...and rude. Sheesh.

I do agree that French bakeries do tend to have the best baguettes...but those are kind of rare here so we usually just buy from the grocery store. I think they're okay, but I also think we're just accustomed to mediocre baguettes. If only there were fancy French bakeries everywhere c:
